Do You Offer Lodging or an Experience?

Creating a Unique Experience Beyond Simple Lodging

In today’s rapidly changing world, everything is consumed so quickly, People’s needs and desires shift constantly, and to be honest, it's hard to know what anyone truly wants or needs to live. This can be especially overwhelming for vacation rental hosts. With the vacation rental market growing more popular by the day, more people are jumping into the game, increasing the competition.

Many hosts try to distinguish themselves by reducing prices, offering late check-in or check-out, or enhancing outdoor amenities like swimming pools or children's toys. While pricing is undeniably one of the most crucial parts of attracting guests, being the cheapest option is not always the best strategy. What you need is the right price—a price that reflects the value and unique experience your property offers.

As hosts, the first question you should ask yourself is, "Why would someone rent my house?" Everyone has their own answer, and there is no single correct answer to this question. The worst answers keep changing all the time, but one thing I am 100% sure of is that "my home is offering the cheapest price" is the wrong answer.

Instead, focus on finding a way to offer an experience rather than just lodging. How do we offer an experience? What a sophisticated question, right? I don't think so, because I know that each individual has their own story and experiences. However, current economic situations, expectations, or concerns often prevent us from focusing on the big picture. We all try to find answers on Google or other popular media, spending time finding popular keywords, determining which social media platform is more effective for ads, and watching millions of videos on YouTube that offer countless ways to take your money, all in the name of providing a better digital rank.

So, long story short, while finishing this article, I just want you to think: Do you know your answer to the question?
